Secretary of State Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, the future Pope Pius XII, had sent four letters, 30 November 1938 and three 9 January 1939, four letters that attest to the help given him by the Jews during the Second World War. I can imagine that this new revelation, as part of the Case Pius XII will not fail to revive the controversy over the pope sometimes appreciated, sometimes criticized, both in the Catholic Church itself and among Jews in the Diaspora and Israel.
-
For my part, I already gave my opinion in writing on several occasions on this subject. My view has not changed: there are about four million items dating from the pontificate of Pius XII that have not yet been fully classified, and the Holy See itself has confirmed this, when all these parts will be classified by subject, they will then and only then available to historians Jews and Catholics and there so at this stage, no urgency to initiate a possible beatification of Pius XII. But back to the new revelations in the case of Pius XII.

So Daniel Hamiche on
http://americatho.org/ points (adapted excerpts) that the American Foundation Pave The Way ( http://ptwf.org/ ), created and directed by American Jews has revealed the existence of documents discovered by researchers at the Pave the Way Foundation (PTWF). Documents discovered in the Vatican Secret Archives have recently been opened and therefore made accessible. Documents deemed "high importance" by the Foundation. Indeed, Michael Hesemann, a historian of the Pave the Way Foundation (PTWF) discovered a letter from the Cardinal Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli (later Pope Pius XII), letter dated 30 November 1938, three weeks after the terrible Kristallnacht perpetrated by the Nazis against the Jews.
-
This letter was sent by Cardinal Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli all nunciatures and apostolic delegations, as well as 61 European bishops. In this letter, Eugenio Pacelli asked 200,000 visas for "non-Aryan Catholics" (code word for "Jews , As explained below). A month later, on January 9, 1939, Eugenio Pacelli sent three new letters to the same recipients. By "non-Aryan Catholics" says historian Michael Heseman of PTWF, Eugenio Pacelli took over the term of the Concordat of 1933 between the Holy See and Nazi Germany, which included, in a protection agreement , "Jews converted" and "non-Aryan Catholics" (code word for "Jews").
-
But recipients of the letter (ie, all nunciatures and apostolic delegations, along with 61 European bishops) knew that in Eugenio Pacelli's letter, he was simply Jews "unconverted" to Catholicism. In its letter of 30 November 1938, Eugenio Pacelli told its recipients: "We will ensure that the sanctuaries are provided (the Jews) to ensure their spiritual welfare and protect their religious worship, customs and traditions." It is indeed practitioners of Judaism, because Jews "converted" to Catholicism were obviously more "customs and traditions" clean. In the responses of bishops to the Cardinal Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, the thing is confirmed, since speak of "Jewish persecution" of Jews and not "converted" or "non-Aryan Catholics".
-
In one of three letters sent January 9, 1939, written in Latin - to conceal the true meaning to the German censorship - Eugenio Pacelli wrote: "Do you agree not only to save the Jewish people, but also synagogues, cultural centers and everything that relates to their faith: the Torah scrolls, libraries, cultural centers, etc.. . So it again, followers of Judaism and not Jews "converted". The president and founder of Pave the Way Foundation, Elliot Hershberg, Commenting on the discovery of these letters: "Many Jews who managed to leave Europe n'on never had the slightest idea that these visas (200,000) and other official travel documents were obtained through the efforts of the Vatican.
-
That's essentially what Daniel Hamiche reports on
http://americatho.org/ .
-
Personally, I am delighted, of course, that the American Foundation Pave The Way (
http://ptwf.org/ ), established and run by American Jews, has revealed the existence of these letters.
-
I am delighted, and at the same time I do not think the debate is closed, however. I think, however, that the debate will last several more years.
-
I think that, because of the reasons I outlined earlier in this article.
-
And I also think that because I fear that some common Judeophobe, exploiting a possible "rehabilitation" of Pius XII, alleging that during the Second World War, the Church has behaved impeccably. Yes, I dread it.
-
For if it remains the realm of possibility, that Pius XII is one day "rehabilitated" by historians, with supporting evidence, and therefore eventually beatified, the fact remains that some Catholics, laity, priests and bishops have joined the National Socialism and Hitler adopted the hello.
-
All photos, images and historical documents exist in this regard. Jews in the Diaspora and Israel saw the photos, these images and documents. Jews in the Diaspora and Israel know, to have seen, firsthand, the historical evidence, that some Catholics, laity, priests and bishops have joined the National Socialism and Hitler adopted the hello.
-
Therefore, Pius XII Pius XII or not, it would be just and right, welcome with kindness, sensitivity of the Jews, on these issues.
